One of my favorite quotes is by the French poet Paul Valery:
"The way to make your dreams come true is to wake up."
I know first-hand the power of taking that first step...of waking up.
What woke me up was nearly dying!
And not just once, but three separate times in a period of just six months, all from different causes:
I was advised to change my lifestyle and stay at home. No more long-distance bike rides and no more travel. Then a friend and mentor said to me,
"Lowell... if you are going to die, die doing something. Don't die doing nothing."
Wow! That was liberating.
I had looked at death in the face and now I feared it no longer.
Then I realized that I had always been scared by my dream, but that something had now changed.
To quote a well-known adage:

- Dengue Fever in April
- anaphylactic shock from a bee sting in July
- a blood clot that passed through my heart to my lung in September

"Lowell... if you are going to die, die doing something. Don't die doing nothing."
Wow! That was liberating.
I had looked at death in the face and now I feared it no longer.
Then I realized that I had always been scared by my dream, but that something had now changed.

I stopped messing around.
I stopped dabbling.
